Hey there, from the desk of Pastor Tim.

Have you ever dreamed that you desperately needed something, and, in your anxiety, you were running around searching for this “thing” and every placed you looked to was closed? The buildings were all empty, or maybe it was after hours, and you could not reach anyone, and it seemed like everywhere you turned you had just missed them. I once dreamt of trying to find my way home and to my shock, the church I was looking for, to help me find direction and peace was closed down. There was no resemblance of anyone or anything that I knew from the church anywhere to be found. There was no one there, everything was gone, I mean totally vacant. What a nightmare for me! I woke up in a cold sweat and my heart just pounding. It was so real! It scared the “ba-gee-buz” out of me (if that is a real word)! That dream sent me searching, seriously searching to find my way back to God.

Could you imagine what life would be like without any churches or businesses in our local area? Especially if the ones we have grown to know, and love were suddenly all closed? Well, we have had a scare pretty much like that due to the recent hurricanes Laura and Delta, covid-19 and not to mention the floods and ice storm. In today’s blog I want to shine a spotlight on some of our local businesses in the Moss Bluff area.

First, I want to give a great big shout out to Steve Gaudet and his fine team at the Gillis Grocery Mart and the Gillis Meat Market. We are so glad and thankful for the goods and services they bring to our community, the jobs he provides for his employees and the citizens of our community. I had a good long conversation with Steve a few weeks back and I want you to know that he has a real heart for our community and the people who live here. If you are in the area stop by and tell him Hey for me, and while you are there pick me up some boudin and cracklins too.

Another business that I would like to give a huge shout out to is Rougeaux’s barber shop, right there on highway 171 just north of Joe Miller Rd. Mr. Rougeaux started his business 25 years ago after a long and productive career in rice farming right in the Moss Bluff area. Mr. Rougeaux is 82 years old and still going strong. He and his little building has survived 5 major hurricanes. I would love to know just how many heads of hair he has cut in his illustrious career. He is very passionate about his faith in the LORD and the work that he does. Next time you are around, stop in and let him tell you about Moss Bluff and the region. I promise you; you will enjoy every minute of it, and while doing so let him cut that head of hair of yours.

One final thought, as I bring this blog to a close. Businesses and commerce are the life blood of any community. I encourage you to take a minute to pray for our local businesses. And let them know that you appreciate them. Many are having a hard time finding employees to keep up with the demands, so give them some extra courtesy as they seek to fill those positions left behind from all the battle blows, we have all taken these last few years. In fact, let’s pray together for them now. Father, I pray for our local businesses and their owners, that they would prosper, be health even as the souls of their owners prosper as well as those who work with and support them too. In Jesus name, amen!
